LIC Transfer Policy
At Louisiana International College, we strive to recognize our students’ prior academic achievements while also ensuring that each student receives a comprehensive, well-rounded education.Transfer Credit Requirements
To receive credit for a course taken at another institution, you must have received a B (3.0 on 4.0 scale) or higher. Most courses must have been taken within the past ten years, although the Registrar may enforce a shorter time for some courses or waive this requirement for others.
Transfer credits are evaluated only from an official transcript. We may also require official course syllabi from the term the course was taken.
The course grade for a transferred course is not calculated into a student’s grade point average. If LIC awards credit from a transferred course, including internal credit by challenging examination, it shall be so identified on the student’s academic transcript.
When the prospective student and the admissions representative have completed the application requirements, the information is sent to the Registrar in the Student Services department for evaluation. We can accept unofficial transcripts from the applicant to expedite the credit evaluation process, although we will require an official transcript later on.
An official transcript must be sent to LIC in one of the following ways before the end of the first semester:
Directly from the institution where the credit was earned
Sent by the student, as long as the official transcript is sealed from the originating institution
We will generate an assessment listing all coursework that is transferable. The assessment is used to generate the individual degree plan (IDP).
Students must provide all credentials for evaluation at least two weeks prior to initial enrollment. LIC’s Office of the Registrar will complete the transfer credit evaluation and plan of study prior to initial enrollment and no later than 60 days after receipt of transcripts or other credentials to be evaluated for possible credit transfer.
Exploring Transfer Credits Prior to Admission
LIC has established an online process to explore the transfer of undergraduate credits from selected accredited institutions. In order to identify transfer credits from these institutions, students should consult http://www.collegetransfer.net/.
However, in all circumstances, the transfer of credits is ultimately evaluated on a course-by-course and case-by-case basis. Transfers are ultimately decided by Chief Academic Officer in consultation with the Office of the Registrar.
In cases where outstanding evidence exists, a preliminary evaluation will be completed and updated upon receipt of all materials.
Transfer Credit Limit
The maximum number of credits that may be transferred into an LIC program is 25% of the program or as determined by the Registrar.
All transfer credit must have a grade of B (3.00) or higher and may be derived from a combination of any or all of the following:
Units earned at institutions approved by the Louisiana Board of Regents.
Units earned at public or private institutions of higher learning accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the U. S. Department of Education.
Units earned at any institution of higher learning, including foreign institutions, if the institution offers degree programs equivalent to those approved by the Board of Regents or is accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Challenge examinations and standardized tests such as the College Level Placement Tests (CLEP) for specific academic disciplines.
LIC does not recognize acquired life experience and prior experiential learning as a consideration for enrollment or granting credit toward any of its programs. The University does not have an articulation agreement or transfer agreement with any other school, college or university at the present time.
Completing the Enrollment Process as an Transfer Student
After transcripts and diplomas are evaluated and transfer credit is applied where warranted, an individual degree plan is created and sent to the applicant, showing the transferred credit when applicable, along with courses required to graduate from the chosen program with elective course alternatives highlighted.
The admissions representative contacts the prospective student at this point and answers any questions related to the degree plan and the enrollment process. This notification occurs for first-time enrollment as well as for all future course enrollments.
Once the individual degree plan is accepted and all required documents are submitted, the enrollment process is completed, and the applicant officially becomes a student.
New LIC students will automatically be enrolled in the online orientation course DE 101 Online Learning before they may start their program. The orientation gives students the opportunity to become comfortable with the university’s online student learning center platform and will help them successfully complete their coursework. Students may begin the online orientation course shortly after their enrollment is confirmed.
Notice Concerning Transferability of Credits and Credentials earned at LIC
If you transfer from Louisiana International College to another institution of learning, the transferability of credits you earn is at the complete discretion of the institution to which you transfer. Acceptance of the credits or degree you earn in any Louisiana International College educational program or course is also at the complete discretion of the institution to which you transfer.
If the credits or degree that you earn at Louisiana International College are not accepted at the institution to which you transfer, you may be required to repeat some or all of your coursework at that institution. For this reason, you should make certain that your attendance at this institution will meet your educational goals. We recommend contacting the institution to which you may seek to transfer after attending Louisiana International College to determine if your credits or degree will transfer.
Information for International Applicants
Applicants who have earned credits or degrees in a country other than the U.S. are required to provide additional documentation during the application and enrollment process.
If you are transferring credit from a university outside of the U.S., we may require the submission of course syllabi and/or course-by-course evaluation by an approved international credential evaluation service. LIC usually directs students to and accepts evaluations performed by the following:
World Education Services, Inc. (WES)
Josef Silny and Associates, Inc.
Foreign Transcript Evaluation
Transcripts for comparable university-level courses completed in a country other than the United States must be evaluated by an outside credential evaluation company before they are submitted to LIC. The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (www.naces.org) members are acceptable sources for foreign credential evaluation and translation services.
The applicant must send his or her original transcript (or a notarized copy of the original transcript) to the LIC Registrar for evaluation. Additionally, transcripts from high school-equivalent institutions or university-level courses that are not in English must be sent to LIC together with an official translation.
Any document sent by an applicant in support of their application may be reviewed by relevant institutions, including the institution issuing the documentation and/or an established foreign evaluation service that can establish degree comparability.
Three credible providers of credential evaluations are World Education Services (WES www.wes.org); International Education Research Foundation (IERF www.ierf.org); and the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (AACRAO www.aacrao.org), but LIC may also accept evaluations from other credible sources.
English Proficiency
LIC encourages applications from students around the world, but no English language services are offered at this time. Students whose native language is not English must submit proof of English proficiency through one of the following sources:
I. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 500 for paper based, or 61 for iBT Internet based.
II. International English Language Test (IELTS) exam with a minimum score of 6.0
III. A minimum grade of Pre1 on the Eiken English Proficiency Examination.
IV. A transcript verifying completion of at least 30 semester hours of credit with an average grade of “C” or higher at an appropriately accredited college or university where the language of instruction was English.
V. A transcript verifying a grade of “C” or higher in an English composition course from an appropriately accredited/recognized college or university.
Student Visa Information
As a distance learning institution that requires no resident or physical classroom attendance, LIC does not qualify for student visas.
